The following morning we decided to quickly go and check out the famous Tuborgflasken before we end up finding a place for a long and relaxing brunch. This giant, 26 meter tall beer bottle is in Hellerup, which is a suburb located to the north of central Copenhagen.
Másnap reggel úgy döntöttünk, hogy még táplálékszerzés előtt elbuszozunk Koppenhága Hellerup nevű negyedébe, ami a belvárostól északra helyezkedik el, és jól megnézzük magunknak a 26 méter magas Tuborgflaskent, azaz a Tuborg sörösüveget.
The Tuborgflasken was built for the 1888 National Exhibition and it was an instrument of advertising the first ever bottled beer made by the Tuborg Brewery. Initially it was erected in Tivoli, but later on it was moved to the Hellerup, where the Tuborg factory stood until Carlsberg bought it up in 1970. After that Hellerup turned into an office area where the only reminder of the good old times is this very lonely bottle. It must be extremely funny when people, who don’t know the background story, see it for the first time.
A Tuborgflaskenről kell tudni, hogy eredetileg az 1888as koppenhágai világkiállításra készült az első üveges Tuborg sör reklámozása céljából, és a Tivoliban kapott helyet. Később aztán áthelyezték Hellerupba, ahol akkor még a Tuborg sörgyár állt és sokak örömére gyártotta eme nemes nedűt mindaddig amíg a Carlsberg fel nem vásárolta 1970ben. Mára már az egész környék irodanegyeddé alakult, és a sörgyárra csak ez a magányosan álldogáló hatalmas sörösüveg emlékeztet. Aki pedig nem ismeri a háttérsztorit, valószínűleg igencsak meglepődik mikor megpillantja.
While sitting on the bus we had a chance to very thoroughly observe Copenhagen’s serious-looking cycle network. I’ve never seen anything like this before, not even in Amsterdam. There are wide, blue cycle lanes on both sides of the otherwise extremely big roads, and in each corner of the junctions there is a mini cycle-junction as well. Thanks to this advanced system, there are so many people who choose to ride the bike instead of driving, that I was more afraid of them than the almost-neglected cars and buses.
Buszozás közben egyébként alkalmunk adódott alaposan megfigyelni a város igen komoly biciklihálózatát, amihez foghatót én még sehol máshol nem láttam. Még Amszterdamban sem. Az utak mindkét oldalán széles, kékre festett biciklisávok vannak, és az útkereszteződések sarkaiban van egy-egy biciklisáv-kereszteződés is. Ennek köszönhetően persze olyan sokan pattannak a drótszamárra, hogy már-már jobban tartottam tőlük, mint az autóktól.

Because some friends who have visited Copenhagen just a few weeks before us suggested that we try out The Laundromat Cafe, we thought that it’s gonna be the perfect place for a well-deserved Sunday brunch. The cafe is very conveniently located in close proximity to the Tuborgflasken. The only thing we forgot to take into account was that because of our timing and the kids-friendly nature of the cafe, we will end up waiting for almost an hour to find a free table. Of course, Murphy’s law can’t betray you on your holiday either, which in our case meant, that the first free table was exactly right next to the toy-corner. It’s ok, we thought, and we sat down even though we couldn’t even hear our own voice because of the extreme amount of screaming and crying. At some point one of the kids took a plastic dinosaur, and started to hit the floor as hard as he could. Will then said: “How do you think they would react, if I go there, take another plastic dinosaur, and start hitting the floor?”. I found the thought of this show very entertaining, but in the end he wasn’t brave enough to actually do it.
Mivel Koppenhágában már jártas ismerőseink azt ajánlották, hogy mindenképp próbáljuk ki a The Laudromat Cafe nevű helyet, úgy éreztük, hogy aznap ez lesz számunkra a tökéletes reggeliző-ebédelőhely. Főleg hogy meglehetősen közel volt a Tuborg üveghez. Azt az egy dolgot viszont figyelmen kívül hagytuk, hogy a késő vasárnap délelőtti időpont, illetve a hely gyerekbarát jellege együttesen fog közrejátszani abban, hogy majdnem egy órán át ácsorogjunk asztalra várakozva a hely bejáratánál. Persze ilyenkor jön képbe Murphy minden lehetséges törvénye. Ezúttal például az, hogy ha ennyi várakozás után felszabadul egy asztal, akkor az halálbiztosan a játszósarok mellett lesz. Sebaj, gondoltuk, és leültünk. Persze még a saját hangunkat sem hallottuk az éktelen sikoltozástól. Mikor aztán az egyik rosszcsont teljes erejéből püfölni kezdte a padlót egy műanyag dinoszaurusszal, Will csöndben megkérdezte: “Szerinted mit szólnának, ha odamennék, kezembe vennék egy másik dinoszauruszt, és én is püfölni kezdeném a padlót?”. Engem meglehetősen szórakoztatott az efféle műsor gondolata, de Willnek végül nem volt elég bátorsága ehhez a kísérlethez.

By the way, it’s important to know, that the portions here are so large that you won’t need more food for the rest of the day for sure. Oh, and everything is super delicious!
Egyébként fontos megjegyeznem, hogy ha valaki itt szeretne táplálékot szerezni, biza készüljön fel arra, hogy óriás adagokkal fog szembesülni, és másnap reggelig biztosan nem lesz újra éhes. Amúgy minden nagyon-nagyon finom.
Because on Sundays most places are closed, we ended up spending the last few hours before our flight in Café Nutid, which isn’t a simple coffee shop, it’s more like a community cafe. Most of the time people come here with their laptops and books to work or study, while they consume the coffee in the form of intravenous drip, they feel motivated by the environment (everyone else who is working or studying must have a similarly bad time), and on top of that, they don’t need to pay for the heating at home. In reality, most of the people were using their MacBooks to hang on Facebook, which made us think, that even locals must find the ‘everything-is-closed’ Sundays pretty boring. Anyway, Café Nutid is a non-profit place, which means that everyone who works here is a volunteer. This has two advantages: the prices are student-friendly, and the income is donated for charity. They also organise several different events, such as concerts, or book launches, during which the place becomes extremely crowded.
Mivel vasárnap lévén minden zárva volt, a repülő előtti hátralévő időnket a Café Nutid nevű iroda-jellegű kávézóban/közösségi térben töltöttük. Ez ugye arra való, hogy az ember idejön laptoppal meg könyvekkel tanulni vagy dolgozni, vénásan töltik bele a kávét, miközben erősen hat a közösségi érzés motiváló ereje (vagyis hogy mindenki más is hasonlóan szív), és még a fűtést sem kell otthon fizetni erre az időre. Persze a valóságban az emberek nagy része MacBookon Facebookozott, ami arra enged következtetni, hogy azért a helyiek piszkosul tudnak unatkozni hétvégén egy olyan városban, ahol minden értelmes hely bezár. A Café Nutid egyébként egy non-profit kávézó, és mindenki aki itt dolgozik az önkéntes, így a kávénak egyetemista-barát ára van, a bevételt pedig jótékony célokra ajánlják fel. Különfélre rendezvényeket, mint például koncerteket meg irodalmi esteket is szerveznek, és ilyenkor dugig van emberekkel.

We returned to the airport quite tired and overwhelmed with memories and experiences. Copenhagen is an awesome place I can only recommend to everyone who wants to spend a long weekend away from home. And it’s definitely not true, that it’s only worth visiting in the summer!
Rengeteg élménnyel és viszonylag fáradtan tértünk vissza a reptérre. Koppenhágát mindenkinek csak ajánlani tudom. Menjetek és élvezzétek! És nem feltétlenül csak nyáron! 🙂
