Copenhagen Off the Beaten Track: Ruben og Bobby Arcade Barbershop

The whole thing happened back in February, when Will and I wanted to go away for a long weekend somewhere random. Flying to Copenhagen from London is always a very cheap option, so after thinking about it for at least half an hour, we just got the plane tickets… cause y’know… we’re cool, and go with the flow. 🙂 Anyway, whenever we travel somewhere, we quickly scroll through and take a mental note of the official must-sees of a city, after which we dive into this whole big, unexplored world of off-the-beaten-path sights and activities. This is how Will accidentally discovered Ruben og Bobby, a retro game barbershop located in Nørrebro, one of Copenhagen’s trendy districts, after which he was messaging me ecstatically all evening, saying that ‘We must see this place!’. That was the moment when I realised, that the name William must be a synonym for the love of video games. (Ok, that is not true. I realised this much earlier.)

Februárban Will és én le szerettünk volna lépni valahova egy hosszú hétvégére, és úgy voltunk vele, hogy tökmindegy hova, csak mozduljunk ki egy picit Londonból. Koppenhágába repülni innen általában mindig nagyon olcsó, úgyhogy kemény fél óra töprengés után meg is vettük a repjegyeket… mertugye… mi már csak ilyen lazák vagyunk, és hagyjuk hogy csak úgy sodorjon az ár. 🙂 No de a lényeg az, hogy valahányszor valahova elutazunk, mindig gyorsan végiggörgetjük a kötelező látnivalók listáját, majd nekilátunk a kevésbé ismert, szokatlanabb helyek és tevékenységek felkutatásának. Egy ilyen Google előtt töltött este során bukkant rá Will egy Ruben og Bobby névre hallgató rendhagyó fodrászüzletre, ami egyben egy retró játékbolt és Nørrebro-ban, Koppenhága egyik igen trendi negyedében található. Ezt követően borzaszó lelkesen mondogatta egész este, hogy “Ezt a helyet muszáj lesz megnézni”. Ekkor jöttem rá, hogy a William név a videójáték-szerelem szinonímája kell hogy legyen. (Najó, ez nem igaz. Erre sokkal hamarabb rájöttem.)

I am an extremely shy person when it comes to try and take photos of people I don’t know, and every time I actually convince myself to do it, I am prepared to run, if the subject notices my ‘suspicious’ behaviour, and tries to come after me. It’s also worth mentioning, that my knowledge of any kind of anime, manga, video game, sci-fi, or cosplay is very limited, but I thought, spending a day at the UK’s biggest modern pop culture weekend can be both fun, and a good exercise to put myself out there, and take a few shots. Luckily, these people are all lovely – and extremely exhibitionist -, and they love to pose in front of the camera.

Alapvetően nagyon félénk vagyok ha idegen emberek fotózásáról van szó, és minden egyes alkalommal mikor mégis ráveszem magam, előre felkészülök testileg lelkileg, mert ha a fotó alanya netán észreveszi a gyanús tevékenységet és utánam ered, mégicsak jó lenne elszaladni. Azt is érdemes megemlíteni, hogy tudásom meglehetősen korlátozott bármiféle anime, manga, videójáték, sci-fi vagy cosplay kapcsán, ennek ellenére úgy gondoltam, hogy ha körülnézek egy kicsit az Egyesült Királyság legnagyobb modern popkultúrával foglalkozó hétvégéjén, az egyrészt szórakoztató tevékenység, másrészt tökéletes fotós gyakorlat. Szerencsére ezek az emberek mind nagyon kedvesek – meg roppant exhibicionisták -, és imádnak pózolni a kamerák előtt.
